Hot Takes on Social Media

Host: Kate Bartlett, Co-Host: Gabby Kissell

In today’s episode, Social Media is Imperfect, and so Are We, Gabby and I give our opinions on social media. In the beginning we cover the basics of talking about how active we are on social media, our most used apps, among other things. After covering the basics, we talk about how social media makes us feel and if it has ever affected our mental health. We bring up the good and bad sides to social media and the ways it does affect our mental health. The topic eventually switches over to talking about celebrities and influencers. Gabby and I talk about the celebrities we find to be the most relatable on social media and how they show their true side. We also cover if social media is a place where it’s okay to show the real side of somebody and be relatable. After talking about celebrities on social media we slide into the topic of businesses feeding on insecurity. We talk about how Victoria Secret badly affects women’s self-esteem, other businesses using celebrities to promote their products to “better yourself”, among other things. Our last topic we covered which was our most heated one was, women in the media. We both talked about how women are oversexualized in the media, and it seems to be worse as we get into this newer age of media.
